This weekend, jazz lovers will have a treat! It’s time for a great competition and a cool festival. November 10th to 12th, Thalia Hall hosts the international contest – “Sibiu Jazz Competition”.
For the first time since its launch in 1979, Sibiu Jazz Competition takes place separately from the jazz festival. And for 3 days, starting with 19:00, those who choose this event will be able to listen to new jazz bands in Europe, aspiring to the grand prize of the contest. This year, 53 participants from 15 countries took part in this contest. And after last week’s preselections, the jury selected 13 finalists from 8 countries. Young artists from countries such as Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Russia, Hungary or Turkey will shine on the stage. Romania also, will be represented by two highly talented young jazz musicians. On Friday and Saturday, the competitor’s compositions will be listened, and on Sunday, after the concerts of the last contestants, the audience will listen to the special Big Band Gaio on. During the same period, the “Mozaic Jazz Festival” also takes place with a six-band line-up. The festival promises to be an exciting mosaic of internationally renowned bands and artists. There will be unprecedented projects, extraordinary voices and virtuoso instrumentalists. Sport is also included in the events of this week. November 11th and 12th, at 13:00, Shopping City Sibiu hosts the National Powerlifting Championship. The bench press, the most practiced exercise in fitness and gym, is a test of in this powerlifting competition. It is the manifestation of force carried to the extreme. You will be able to watch at least 70 well-trained athletes in all weight and age categories, both masculine and feminine. It is the third consecutive edition of this event and all sports lovers can enjoy it.

The show will be followed by a Jam Session, so if you’re a guitarist, bass player, drummer or vocalist, you can climb on stage with the band members. The funds will be used for the cats division of Animal Life ONG, which annually helps with treatments, castrations and adoptions of about 600 cats! Friday, November 10th, at 21:00, Atrium is home to another great event : the jazz concert of “Kozma Orsi Quartet”. Organisers say that Orsi Kozma has been a unique colour on the palette of the jazz scene in Hungary since their debut in 2008. The concert is announced to be fresh, exciting and refined.
